Congregational Vitality Assessment
A Research-Based Diagnostic Inventory
by The FaithX Project with the Episcopal Church Foundation
The Congregational Vitality Assessment is designed to provide congregations with an assessment of its Vitality
(how healthy it is) and its Sustainability (whether it has the people, financial, and contextual resources
necessary to survive). It can be completed by a single congregational leader or a group (leadership group or
the entire congregation). We recommend the group option for more balanced and accurate results, though the pastor
(or other leader) may wish to take it as an individual in order to explain to the group what the questions and
scoring will look like.
Since the Congregational Vitality Assessment is based on self-reporting, its diagnosis will only be as accurate as the answers you provide. You can help your congregation get the most helpful results by answering as honestly and objectively as possible.
