ECF Vital Practices: Discernment -- A Building Program About More than Buildings
Almost every congregation considers a capital campaign at some point in time. You’ve invited to follow ECF capital campaign client, St. Aiden’s in Alexandria, Virginia, as they progress through the steps of a campaign, in their Capital Campaign Diary on ECF Vital Practices. In the first entry of the series, the Rev. John M. Baker, rector at St. Aidan's, reflects on the process of discernment in the context of a capital campaign. "What we learned over the next few months was that we were only going to build what the community could agree on," he writes. "But what may be the greater gift of this process--the one that lasts and continues to build us up over time--is our new understanding of and appreciation for the gift of discernment.." You can read more about St. Aidan's capital campaign in the Fieldwork section of ECF Vital Practices. As they work through their campaign, they will periodically share updates and learning from their experience. ECF is priveleged to partner with St. Aidan's on their capital campaign. As part of ECF's on-going effort to assist Episcopal congregations with their capital campaigns, we are offering a free webinar for parish leaders: Basics of a Parish Captial Campaign. The webinar will provide a step-by-step understanding of the three phases: Discernment, Feasibility Study, and the Gifting Phase. The next webinar will offered on Monday, June 20, 2011, 6:00 - 7:00 PM ET. There is no charge to participate. To learn more and to register, please click here.
