New Dreams-New Visions Expands Pilot to Include up to 6 New Dioceses; Launches Webiste
January 4, 2011, New York, NY – The Coordinating Committee for New Dreams-New Visions (NDNV) met in New York last month and took significant actions, including:
1. The rollout of the NDNV website: www.EpiscopalNewDreams.org. Information and resources on the site include:
a. a downloadable fact sheet, including the pilot dioceses for NDNV
2. The expansion of the pilot project to include up to 6 new dioceses. Members of the coordinating committee will be contacting dioceses that have expressed an interest. As well, the Office for Transition Ministry at the Episcopal Church Center will invite diocesan Transition Ministers to contact the coordinator if they are interested in applying for one of two pilot slots. Criteria for a pilot diocese include the support of the diocesan Bishop and Transition Minister for the project; being a Fresh Start diocese; have between 1 and 3 congregations that are seeking part-time clergy; have the ability to help to work with NDNV to provide non-financial resources to those congregations and the clergy they call; and are able to contribute at least $1000 to the pilot project budget.
In addition NDNV has plans for a marketing campaign to catch the attention of clergy interested in ministry with small congregations after retirement. They will be working on the final material for resourcing and training the NDNV participants about the NDNV theme of “being gathered around the ministry and not the minister.”
NDNV, which seeks to connect vital, retired clergy with vibrant, small worshipping communities, is a collaborative effort of the Church Pension Group, the Episcopal Church Center, and the Episcopal Church Foundation (ECF) working closely with the CREDO Institute and Fresh Start. Members of the Coordinating Committee are: Donald Romanik (ECF) and Jill Mathis (Diocese of Pennsylvania), Co-Chairs; Tori Duncan (OTM), Matthew Stockard (Diocese of East Carolina), Mike Ehmer (CREDO and Fresh Star), Pat Coller (CPG), Walter Taylor (CPG) and Lynn Schmissrauter (Fresh Start). Thad Bennett (Diocese of Vermont) serves as the pilot project’s coordinator. The initial 6 pilot project dioceses are: Vermont, Western Massachusetts, Atlanta, Oklahoma, Eastern Michigan, and Southwest Florida.
