The Zacchaeus Project

In 1998 and 1999, the Episcopal Church Foundation carried out one of the largest grass roots studies of any American religious group. Seven Episcopal Church Foundation researchers interviewed more than 2,500 Episcopalians in over 260 states. The main findings showed a pervasive local vitality with a focus on worship, leadership formation and mission. Our research revealed that Episcopalians are building innovative patterns of faithfulness, defying reports of conflict and culture wars.

The findings and results of this research project were published in The Zacchaeus Project: Discerning Episcopal Identity at the Dawn of the New Millennium which was sent to every congregation in the country.
